Indigenous students at the Murri School in Brisbane have received ready-to-use notebook computers donated by BHP and facilitated by G1's Tech to Country laptop donation program.

These laptops were provided to Year 12 students to enable them to complete their schooling year in the wake of COVID-19 school closures.

With much of each student's coursework moving to remote delivery during the coronavirus outbreak, sufficient access to technology is critical.

Mick Gooda, Murri School Board Chair and community Elder, said the initiative would reduce disruption and help students complete their studies online as they finished their final year of school.

Joel Prokic, Director of IT Asset Disposals at G1 Asset Management, said that Indigenous students and families were at disproportionate risk of being adversely affected by COVID-19 due to lower access to critical technology.

"BHP's donation through the Tech to Country program is going to have a significant impact on the education of these students. These are difficult times for students and families, and the donation by BHP will help to ease this burden for these students and their families.
